Pulse Pickers and Regen Systems

Quantum Technology, Inc. (QTI) designs and manufactures systems for regenerative amplification, plucking, picking, extraction, or selection of optical pulses from visible and near IR mode-locked laser beams. There are three basic systems:

1) Model HVP-5I-DIFF
2) Model 32180D-DD1
3) Model 301

All systems require a Pockels cell/modulator of ADP (300nm-800nm), or KD*P (800nm-1100nm). These crystals are grown in Quantum's laboratories with tight control of growth and fabrication processes. High contrast option is available for all systems. UV option (200nm to 400nm) is also available with BBO Pockels cell for model HVP and near IR (800nm to 2500nm) with Lithium Tantalate modulator for model 32180D (data sheet 741). A modified version DD2 is now available. (View Informational Photographs)

1) Model HVP-5I-DIFF system employs differential switching high voltage FETs which drive very fast response time EO Pockels cells such as series QC, series LN or BBO series QS. The driver has a fast (4-7 nanoseconds) rise and fall times, variable pulse gate width from 7ns to 3000ns with output voltages up to 9KV. The typical repetition rate is 1.5KHz and up to 50KHz options are available. This system can pick out pulse from pulsed or CW mode-locked lasers, or CW Q-switched mode locked lasers. It is completely modular in construction, with plug-in units which can be up-gradeable and field replaceable to provide quick turnaround service. This driver is extremely useful in regenerative amplifier laser setups where single or multiple pulses are seeded in the laser cavity. The plug-in unit is the model DD1 divider delay countdown electronics unit, capable of generating 2 independently delayable high speed trigger pulses from a clock train input (datasheet 734).

2) Model 32180D-DD1 driver employs state of the art RF MOS FETs driving a 50 ohm EO modulator for fast (< 7.5ns) rise and fall time. The driver has a high repetition rate of 10MHz, producing gate widths as short as 10 nanoseconds and at mode lock clock rates of 200MHz. The modulators are transverse low voltage devices similar to those used in EO modulation systems. The driver accepts a high frequency signal from the mode-locker output or from a photodiode and it divides it down by a factor of 10 to 10,000,000 depending upon the repetition rate desired for extraction (datasheet 372, 719, and 741).

3) Model 301 driver employs high speed FET circuits, driving a 50 ohm impedance transmission line EO modulator with fast (< 5ns) rise and fall time. The maximum repetition rate is 200KHz and maximum trigger rate is 200MHz. The principle of operation is similar to model 32180D (datasheet 727 and modulator datasheet 719).
